The new documentary series ‘Queen of the Neighborhood’ will premiere on Kan 11 and Kan BOX on Saturday night, May 23, at 21:30. It follows Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv Football Club during its 2024/25 Liga Leumit season as the team tries to return to the top tier of Israeli football.
The four-part series offers a rare look behind the scenes at a professional football club in Israel. Through the locker rooms, training sessions, professional decisions and its relationship with supporters, it captures direct and personal moments involving the players, professional staff and fans.
At the center is Bnei Yehuda, a club that for years was a source of pride and a symbol of Tel Aviv’s Hatikva neighborhood, but has faced a much more difficult reality in recent years. The series explores the tension between the team’s celebrated past and its current position, as well as its attempt to return to the Israeli Premier League.
One of the main stories follows Eliran Atar, who returns to the club where he grew up in an effort to help it earn promotion, partly to fulfill a personal promise he made to his father before his death. The series also follows Jonathan Agyapong, a young player born in the neighborhood to migrant workers from Ghana, who is trying to build a future through football.
The series also features team owner Eliran Oved, professional manager Maor Burg, mental coach Maoz Samia and team manager Ami Ganish. Alongside them are Bnei Yehuda’s supporters, who follow the team closely and experience its successes and failures as an inseparable part of the neighborhood’s identity.
‘Queen of the Neighborhood’ was created by Eyal Elisha, Emanuel Barbi and Rafael Balulu. Eyal Elisha directed and wrote the series, and Dudu Tassa composed the original music.
