Bialik Square, now one of Tel Aviv’s cultural hearts, is taking on new life. The narrative audio tour “Cat Aviv” is expanding into a live theatrical version in collaboration with actors from Hasifriya Theatre.
At the center of the experience is an unusual guide: a pampered, sharp-tongued and slightly elitist Tel Aviv cat who leads participants on a walking journey between the square’s iconic cultural institutions. Through headphones, visitors hear a story combining memory, history and imagination, while encountering live actors along the route.
In the new version of the tour, reality and stage meet. One moment celebrates the city’s legendary cafés, while the next travels back to Bialik’s 1909 ball. The actors move between past and present, historical texts and live performance, with the scenes integrated naturally into the walking route itself. After each encounter, participants return to their headphones and continue.
The route passes through the Tel Aviv-Yafo City Museum, Bialik House, Liebling Haus, Rubin Museum and Felicja – House of Sound Art. Rather than a standard guided tour, the experience is a funny, touching and surprising audio play revealing lesser-known layers of urban history through dialogue, music and documentary materials. Sources of inspiration include newspaper articles, the writings of Haim Nahman Bialik and literary works woven into the narrative.
The next theatrical tour will take place on Wednesday, February 11, at 21:00. The tour lasts around 75 minutes, is accompanied by a guide, is recommended for ages 12 and over, and is not accessible.
