The creators of the cult series, Oshrit Sarusi and Chen Rotman, are bringing their popular online characters to the stage of the Baruch Ivcher Beit Lessin Theatre. The wild comedy, directed by Udi Gotshalk, will open on April 23.
Beit Lessin Theatre is presenting the new comedy “Hananel and Maccabit,” written by and starring screenwriters and creators Chen Rotman and Oshrit Sarusi, best known as the creators of the successful cult series “Zot Vezoti.”
The play is based on characters from the pair’s successful web series of the same name. It was well received as a staged reading at the 2024 Potchim Bama Festival and is now receiving a full theatrical production directed by Udi Gotshalk.
The Story
The story follows Hananel, who unexpectedly leaves Maccabit one day, leaving her shocked, hurt and caring for their young twin daughters. The problem is that the two cannot fully separate: they must continue seeing each other every day at the girls’ ulpana where they both work. He is the school’s caretaker, while she is its counselor.
The situation reaches a peak when Maccabit discovers that Hananel is dating none other than the ulpana’s national-service volunteer. In response, she starts going on arranged dates, and her new life drives Hananel out of his mind. Their small relationship drama quickly shakes up the entire staff room, which was never especially stable to begin with.
Series creators Oshrit Sarusi and Chen Rotman wrote the play and perform the lead roles. They are joined on stage by Hai Maor, Keren Mor-Mishori, Tom Zaidner, Ravit Yaakov Cohen, Mika Shivak and Nir Karni.
