How did a dreamy teenager in the 1990s become the world’s most famous mentalist? A new comedy-drama from Kan Educational returns to Lior Suchard’s teenage years with a cast featuring a large share of Israel’s entertainment industry, including Dana International and Rina Matsliah. Here is what to know before the next family binge.
Lior Suchard is known as the charismatic mentalist who performs around the world, appears on Jimmy Fallon and reads the minds of major Hollywood stars. The new series “Young Suchard,” however, offers a comic look at the years when he was simply Lior – a dreamy, shy and somewhat unusual teenager in the 1990s who was still trying to find his place in the world.
The story takes viewers to a turning point in the young Suchard’s life, set in the least expected location: the “Sof Haderech” retirement home. Lior arrives to complete his school community-service hours, but what begins as an assignment quickly becomes an emotional journey. The retirement home turns out to be a lively place full of humor, where he meets Rafi, a mysterious resident with an extraordinary past who takes him under his wing. With Rafi’s help, Lior begins discovering and developing his unusual abilities, while also finding true friends and experiencing first love.
The story explores generational gaps, human relationships and growing up, supported by a star-filled cast. The cast includes Omri and Adia Reich, Noam Lavi, Mi-Ya Megides, Lotem Ron, Tohar Eden, Tom Netanel, Eli Gorenstein, Gilat Ankori, Tamara Klingon, Gilles Ben-David, Tal Tirangel, Natan Natanazon, Tchia Danon, Yigal Naor, Rotem Abuhab and Tzedi Tzarfati. The guest cast is equally packed with familiar names: Lucy Ayoub, Shmuel Vilozhny, Lihi Griner, Rina Matsliah, Avia Reuven, Merav Gruber and, of course, Dana International.
The series will begin airing on April 26 on Kan Educational and Kan BOX. Episodes will air Sunday through Wednesday at 15:30.
