Beit Miriam, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality’s center for gender equality, has launched a new permanent exhibition titled “Mashveh UMa’alah” in cooperation with the Tel Aviv-Yafo City Museum. The exhibition examines how gender identity is formed, shaped and embedded in personal and public spaces throughout life.
The exhibition invites visitors to put on “gender glasses” and reconsider assumptions about roles, expectations and behavior. Through familiar objects, images and environments, it demonstrates how gender accompanies people even before birth through toys, advertising, language, products and urban spaces, sometimes creating gaps and inequality.
The exhibition is curated by Adi Hamer-Yaakobi and Rona Singer, with curatorial guidance from the Tel Aviv-Yafo City Museum by Tom Cohen. Beit Miriam, launched in March 2023 as part of the “Equal City” program, is located at 54 Yehuda Margoza Street in Tel Aviv-Yafo and offers programs, workshops and interactive tours for all ages.
Guided group tours and interactive activities can be arranged in advance alongside the exhibition.
