Starting August 29, Beit Lessin Theater will stage a new Israeli play written and directed by Hillel Mittelpunkt, “Engagement Party.”
Against the backdrop of the war shaking the country, a family gathers at a pastoral guesthouse complex in northern Israel to celebrate the engagement of the youngest daughter. It is the first time in a decade that the entire family has been together, and they try to cling to an illusion of normality and maintain a festive atmosphere.
But beneath the polite smiles lie dark secrets, competing interests and lies that threaten to tear the family apart. A forbidden affair from the past is about to be exposed, a bribery offer is placed on the table, and the family members are forced to decide where their loyalties lie: with their family, their country, their partners, themselves or their moral principles.
Mittelpunkt’s new play combines a family thriller with a drama exploring the complex dilemmas facing Israeli society, gradually peeling back the layers of relationships and tensions between the characters.
The cast includes Yoram Toledano, Sara Vino-Elad, Itamar Elbaz, Maya Levni, Lior Cohen Levin, Tamar Amit-Yosef, Yael Abram, Omri Ilan and Michaela Leshem.
The assistant director is Noa Ben-Ari, set design is by Neta Hacker, costume design by Yehudit Aharon, lighting by Amir Castro and music by Itamar Gross.
