Gili Porat has been appointed artistic director of TLVFest, the International LGBTQ+ Film Festival at Tel Aviv Cinematheque. She will replace Yair Hochner, who founded the festival with Gadi Leshman and led it for two decades following its launch in 2006.
Porat, a member of the LGBTQ+ community and a graduate of Tel Aviv University’s Steve Tisch School of Film and Television, has worked as a content manager at festivals in Israel and abroad and has produced feature films. She founded “TrashTalk,” a podcast about trash and cult films, and served as a producer and artistic director at Holon Cinematheque.
TLVFest takes place at Tel Aviv Cinematheque and presents LGBTQ+ cinema from Israel and around the world. Porat is expected to lead the artistic program beginning with the coming edition.
“I fell in love with the event as a teenager growing up in the periphery, and it is extraordinarily moving for me to lead this cultural institution,” Porat said.
Dina Peled, CEO of Tel Aviv Cinematheque, said Porat brings experience in film and festival work to the role and thanked Hochner for the path he created over his years of leadership.
