Peter Shaffer’s play conquered stages around the world and was adapted into an iconic, Academy Award-winning film. It now receives a contemporary, wild and colorful production that emphasizes the human, emotional and musical sides of the familiar story. The plot draws audiences into the intrigue behind the cultural world and raises deeper questions about status, inspiration and the limits of artistic creation.
At the heart of the story is the confrontation between two very different composers: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, brilliant, uninhibited and charismatic, and Antonio Salieri, the respected veteran court composer. Salieri immediately recognizes that Mozart’s genius is not only electrifying the musical world, but also threatening his own position. As the young composer’s success grows, the jealousy intensifies and their struggle takes on increasingly surreal dimensions.
Lior Ashkenazi and Tal Grushka lead the production in the principal roles. They are joined by Yael Shtulman, Mike Elishkov, Aviram Avitan, Benny Eldar, Tal Danino, Adi Koren, Eran Sharel and singer Elinor Zon.
The first performances are scheduled for early December.
