Two men, aged 19 and 36, were arrested after a nighttime scooter chase in south Tel Aviv. A loaded handgun was found in one suspect’s trouser pocket, police said.
The incident began when officers from Tel Aviv South police station and Central District Border Police spotted the two men riding together on an electric scooter and committing traffic violations. Police said they began to flee when they noticed the officers.
During the chase, the suspects allegedly ran red lights, rode against traffic and drove recklessly, endangering other road users. Border Police officers set up a roadblock and arrested both men.
A search after the arrest uncovered a handgun loaded with ammunition in one suspect’s pocket. Police described the weapon as ready to fire and said the arrests prevented a serious violent incident.
Both suspects were taken to Tel Aviv South police station for questioning. Police said they would ask the court to extend the men’s detention.
