Tel Aviv’s local planning committee approved the design plan for the Reading fuel tank site on September 2, 2026. The approval covers the site’s adaptive-reuse design, while the complex is not yet open as a public culture and sports venue.
The three circular steel tanks, used to store fuel from 1968 to 2007, will not be demolished. Their industrial shells are slated for preservation, with a new inner ring planned inside each tank to create naturally lit spaces for culture, creative work, leisure and sports.
The land between the tanks is planned as public space connecting the Yarkon River, the sea and the city, with room for visitors, activities and events. The plan also includes a natural stormwater retention area and restoration of the Yarkon riverbanks to support habitats for fish, plants, insects and birds.
The plan was advanced by Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and Atarim. It was designed by Milbauer Architects with Tema Landscape Architecture.
