Tel Aviv Cinematheque is presenting Since, Still through October 10, a week of Israeli narrative films, documentaries and television episodes created since 2023 in response to October 7 and the war. Many screenings are followed by conversations with filmmakers.

The program considers trauma, protest and democracy, parents’ fear for their children, grief, music, and the ways filmmakers are trying to process events that are still unfolding.

Two documentary projects at the center of the week

Yaron Zilberman’s Nir Oz: Heaven/Hell tells the story of a kibbutz where roughly one third of the residents were murdered or abducted. The selected episodes follow the Maor-Danzig, Wahab and Butler families and the battles they endured inside their homes and across the kibbutz.

One episode recounts Rachel Elgart-Danzig’s seven-hour struggle to hold shut the handle of a safe-room door and protect her granddaughters. The following episodes focus on Shahar Wahab, trapped in an exposed shelter as his father was killed, and Nir Oz security coordinator Shahar Butler, who was shot in his home.

Whose Are You? follows women who married into Kfar Aza and formed a WhatsApp group to help one another find their place in the kibbutz. After October 7, that group became a source of support, testimony and survival through displacement, bereavement, motherhood and uncertainty.
