Tel Aviv Stock Exchange to Launch New Indices

On Friday, May 8, 2026, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange will launch two new equity indices and upgrade an existing one. The move is intended to give investors more options, diversify portfolios and increase competition and liquidity in the local market.

Here is what is changing:

TA-35 Equal Weight – An Alternative to the Existing Index

In the standard TA-35 index, the 10 largest companies account for about 60% of the index. The new TA-35 Equal Weight index offers a different structure, giving each of the 35 stocks the same weighting of approximately 2.85%.

As a result, the 10 largest companies will account for only about 28.5% of the index. This gives investors another way to diversify and reduce dependence on the largest companies. For example, investors seeking less exposure to banks and more exposure to real estate can do so while remaining within the exchange’s flagship group of companies. The index joins other equal-weight indices already operated by the exchange, including banking and insurance indices.

TA-Food: From Foodtech to Supermarkets

The new index will include 21 shares of Israeli companies connected to the food industry, ranging from foodtech companies developing future products to major manufacturers, importers and retail chains.

  • The figures: The index has an estimated market value of about 65 billion shekels. Nearly half of its companies – 10 out of 21 – were listed during the past eight years.

TA-Retail and Food Becomes TA-Consumer

The existing TA-Retail and Food index is undergoing a substantial change and will be renamed TA-Consumer. The aim is to make it more attractive by focusing on Israeli companies that sell consumer products directly to retail customers.

  • The figures: The expanded index is expected to include about 50 shares with a combined market value of at least 108 billion shekels. The list will be reviewed each March by the exchange’s research team.

How Are the Sectors Divided?

The main sector differences between the standard TA-35 and the equal-weight version are shown below:

What Is Included in the New TA-Food Index?

  • Commerce and services: 66.0% (retail chains 36.5%, commerce 29.6%)
  • Industry: 27.0% (food)
  • Technology: 7.0% (foodtech)

What Is Included in the TA-Consumer Index?

  • Commerce and services: 68.4% (mainly retail chains at 39.4% and commerce at 29.0%)
  • Industry: 25.1% (food, chemicals and plastics, fashion, and wood and paper)
  • Energy, oil and gas: 3.8%
  • Technology: 2.8% (foodtech)

When Will the Changes Take Effect?

The indices will officially launch on Friday, May 8, 2026. The reference date used to select the companies included in them was April 16.
