The gender-separated beach at the end of Nordau Boulevard, near Metzitzim Beach, is planned to move to a stretch of coastline in northern Tel Aviv. There is no plan to establish an additional separate beach – even after the move, the city is expected to operate only one gender-separated beach.
The proposed location is in an area not yet designated for swimming, near Herzliya’s gender-separated beach. If the plan goes ahead, the existing separate beach in central Tel Aviv would open to the general public, the separation wall would be removed and continuous walking access along the promenade would become possible.
The Plan Is Still Under Review
The move is not final. The municipality said it is holding discussions with Herzliya Municipality, the Ministry of Interior and other bodies to examine the move and advance it gradually and in coordination.
The municipality says the proximity of the separate beaches in Tel Aviv and Herzliya could allow family members to arrive in the same area at the same time, with women and men swimming at adjacent beaches. Separate swimming at Tel Aviv’s current beach is held on different days for women and men.
The requirement to operate one gender-separated beach in the city is anchored in Israel’s Bathing Places Regulation Law. Therefore, even if the location changes, the municipality will still be required to provide a gender-separated bathing option.
