Is everything permitted in the name of art? Can art exist without occasionally unsettling the world? An event in Bialik Square will try to find out. An evening of literature, music and market culture will bring together poets and writers working where the boundaries blur between beauty and imperfection, and between inspiration and theft. “What a Find: Culture, Books, Fashion” brings an evening of market stalls, secondhand poetry, “flawed” literature and balcony jazz to Tel Aviv’s cultural square.
On Thursday, November 6, from 16:00 to 22:00, events will take place between Bialik Square and Bezalel Market. The City Museum will host “Secondhand Poetry,” where poets will openly read poems they shamelessly stole, alongside the sources of their “inspiration.” Participants include Omer Waldman, Gal Azran, Larissa Miller, Sapir Younis and Roman Eisenberg. The evening will be hosted by Oded Carmeli. Admission: NIS 25.
At Felicja – House of Sound Art, a live episode of the “Subtext” podcast will begin at 19:30. Poet Alfred Cohen will host an open conversation with three literary voices unafraid of the danger of words: Benny Ziffer, Anat Einhar and Shimon Adaf. They will discuss “flawed” literature: experimental, subversive writing that is not afraid to disrupt order and provoke readers. Admission is also NIS 25.
Bezalel Market, one of Tel Aviv’s fashion landmarks, will remain open into the evening for the event.
Later, at 20:00, the square will fill with live jazz from the balcony of Café Algiers. Admission to the performance is free.
The event is part of the cultural programming at the Bialik Square cultural complex, which has become one of the city’s leading venues for open cultural events combining literature, music, art and local lifestyle.
